BRIEFING MINUTES
FEBRUARY 19, 2008
The Iredell County Board of Commissioners met in Briefing Session on Tuesday,
February 19, 2008, at 5:00 P.M., in the Iredell County Government Center (South Wing
Conference Room), 200 South Center Street, Statesville, NC.

Staff present: County Manager Joel Mashburn, Deputy County Manager Susan
Blumenstein, Elections Director Becky Galliher, Planning/Development Director Ron Smith,
Tax Administrator Bill Doolittle, Fire Marshal Lloyd Ramsey, Solid Waste Director David
Lambert, and Clerk to the Board Jean Moore.
CALL TO ORDER by Chairman Norman.
SHEPHERDS VFD RECEIVES A FEDERAL GRANT: County Manager Joel
Mashburn said Congressman Patrick McHenry, along with Regional Field Director
Brett Keeter, would visit with Shepherds VFD officials on February 20, 2008, at I1 a.m.
Mashburn said the VFD had been awarded a grant, and an invitation was extended to the
commissioners to attend the award ceremony, if schedules permitted.
PLANNING DIRECTOR SMITH PROVIDES NOTICES ABOUT UPCOMING
MEETINGS: Ron Smith, the planning/development director, explained his agenda requests for
the evening and then notified the board about the following events:

REQUEST FOR APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION PROVIDING FOR THE
ISSUANCE OF A $5,300,000 GENERAL OBLIGATION COMMUNITY COLLEGE
BOND, SERIES 2008: Deputy County Manager Susan Blumenstein said approval of this
resolution would allow all parties to move forward in the $5.3 million bond for the college. She
said the bond money would be used for a new Student Services Building, and bids would be
opened on February 22, 2008.
Mitchell Community College Vice President for Finance and Administration Dick
Lefevre said 50 individuals attended a recent construction pre-bid meeting. He said the
anticipated month to break ground on the new building would be either April or May of this year.

found in the regular minutes.)
ADJOURNMENT: Chairman Norman adjourned the briefing at 5:50 p.m.
