IREDELL COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
INCUMBENT BOARD MEMBER MINUTES
December 5, 2022
The Iredell County Board of Commissioners met Monday, December 5, 2022, at 9:00 AM,
in the Iredell County Government Center (Commissioners’ Meeting Room), 200 South Center
Street, Statesville, NC.
Board Members Present
Chairman James Mallory
Vice Chair Melissa Neader
Scottie Brown
Gene Houpe
Brad J. Stroud, Sr.
Staff present: County Manager Beth Mull, County Attorney Lisa Valdez, Deputy
County Manager Susan Robertson, Finance Director Deb Cheek, and Clerk to the Board Amy
Anderson.
CALL TO ORDER by Chairman James Mallory
INVOCATION by Chairman James Mallory
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE led by Chairman James Mallory
REQUEST FOR APPROVAL MINUTES: MOTION by Commissioner Brown to
approve the minutes from November 10 & 15, 2022.
VOTING: Ayes – 5; Nays – 0
OTHER BUSINESS
MOTION by Commissioner Houpe to ratify the Public Official Bonds
originally approved on November 15, 2022.
VOTING: Ayes – 5; Nays – 0
Chairman Mallory said, “I would like to give a special thanks and recognition of all of our
county employees and staff who deliver our essentials services to Iredell County Citizens both
effectively and efficiently. I want to express my appreciation to the municipal boards and Mayors
of Mooresville, Troutman, Statesville, Harmony, and Love Valley, and the Boards of Educati on
of Iredell Statesville Schools, Mooresville Graded School District, and Mitchell Community
College; Sheriff’s Office, First Responders, Judicial System, and the Iredell County Economic
Development Corporation who in tandem with our businesses, healthcare providers, non-profit
organizations, volunteers, and our faith community have all worked together with this board to
achieve our common goals of making our little county the premier community in which to work
and raise a family. A special thanks to our legislative team in the North Carolina House of
Representatives Representative Jeff McNeely, his predecessor Rena Turner, Representative Gray
Mills, his predecessor Rena Turner. Representative Gray Mills and his predecessor John Fraley

and Senator Vickie Sawyer who have effectively advocated on our behalf to help us solve problems
and achieve positive change in state administered programs as well as much needed resources in
helping us achieve our goals. Finally, a special note of appreciation to and thanks to the folks that
I’ve had the privilege over the last eight years of with and serving on this dais. Thanks to our
County Manager Beth Mull and her predecessor Ron Smith, Clerk to the Board Amy Anderson
and her predecessor Retha Gaither, and County Attorney Lisa Valdez and her predecessor Bill
Pope. I want to pay tribute to my elected battle buddies in the center of the action here past county
commissioners Marvin Norman, Steve Johnson, Tommy Bowles, Jeff McNeely, and Ken
Robertson. Current Commissioners Gene Houpe, Brad Stroud, and Scottie Brown all of whom
have worked tirelessly together as a team to accomplish our goals and objectives for the people of
Iredell County and to the new Board with Vice Chair Neader, recently re -elected Commissioner
Gene Houpe, and newly elected members Brad Stroud and Bert Connolly for their first full term.
I wish for you a traditional Sailors Nautical Blessing used by the United States Navy of fair winds
and following seas. Namely that the winds be at your back and propel you forward that the ocean
tides and currents with you and not against you as you sail the ship of State into the future. Good
luck and Godspeed and I salute you.”
ADJOURNMENT: MOTION by Commissioner Stroud at 9:11AM to adjourn the final
meeting of the 2012-2014 Iredell County Board of Commissioners.
