IREDELL COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
RECOVENED MEETING FROM July 16, 2024

The Iredell County Board of Commissioners met in a special gathering on Monday, July
22, 2024, at 5:30 PM, in the Iredell County Agricultural Center, 444 Bristol Drive, Statesville, NC.
Board Members Present
Chair Melissa Neader
Vice Chair Bert Connolly
Commissioner Gene Houpe
Commissioner Brad Stroud, Sr.
Board Members Absent
Commissioner Brown
Staff present: County Manager Beth Mull, Deputy County Manager Susan Robertson,
Assistant County Manager Rodney Harris, and County Attorney Lisa Valdez.
The Board met briefly to continue the discussion on the Government Center Entrance
Project that began at the meeting on July 16, 2024. Manager Mull went over the initial request
stating the Board chose to go with option 1 that included the Guaranteed Maximum Price of
$2,924,719 along with alternates 1-4 for a total price of $3,401,583. She presented the Board with
the agenda memo from the July 16, 2024, meeting, budget amendment #2, and an amended capital
project fund.
MOTION by Commissioner Stroud to approve the GMP Amendment with authorization
for the County Manager to sign, approve budget amendment #2, and to approve the amended
capital project fund.
VOTING: Ayes – 4; Nays – 0
MOTION by Commissioner Houpe to recess until 6PM

Staff present: County Manager Beth Mull, Deputy County Manager Susan Robertson,
Assistant County Manager Rodney Harris, and County Attorney Lisa Valdez.
CALL TO ORDER by Chair Neader to reconvene the meeting from July 22, 2024, at
5:30PM.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE led by Chair Neader.
INVOCATION: Commissioner Stroud led in the invocation.
Chair Neader thanked Nancy Keith, Cooperative Extension Staff, and Volunteers for
inviting the Commissioners to Iredell County Cooperative Extension for the annual Report to the
People.
Cooperative Extension Agent Nancy Keith introduced her staff and recognized attending
state and local elected and appointed officials. The group went outside to see an area that is
proposed to be the site of an outdoor greenhouse that could be used to expand agricultural offerings
to the community. The plan is to begin the application of grants if approved by the Board of
Commissioners.
Agent Keith expressed appreciation for the working relationship with state and local
government. She briefly explained the different aspects of Cooperative Extension and shared
accomplishments achieved by the staff over the past year. Attendees were divided into five groups
and asked to visit each booth hosted by various agents within Cooperative Extension. At each
booth, agents described their area of interest and their programming updates and participation over
the last year.
The Board expressed appreciation to the Extension staff and volunteers for their
informative presentations.

MOTION by Commissioner Stroud to adjourn at 7:45PM. (The next meeting will be
Tuesday, August 6, 2024, 6:00 PM, in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room, Pre-Agenda Meeting
at 4:00PM, Government Center, 200 South Center Street, Statesville, NC)
VOTING: Ayes – 3; Nays – 0
(Commissioner Houpe had to leave early due to not feeling well)
